LTC Plates: The Complete Lineup and How to Choose
LTC plates explained: the Level IV, Level III, and special threat lineup from Leading Technology Composites, how they compare, and how to choose.
LTC plates come from Leading Technology Composites, one of the largest body armor manufacturers in the world and a longtime supplier to military and law enforcement. That pedigree shows in the lineup: heavily focused on certified Level IV protection, triple-curve shaped for all-day comfort, and built to standards including military SOCOM specs. If you are shopping LTC, this guide maps the range so you can find the right plate.
For the broader threat-level framework, see our complete body armor guide. Every plate below links to its product page, where you will find the full certified threat list, exact weights by size, and live stock.
Why LTC
Leading Technology Composites (LTC) is a major American armor manufacturer that produces at scale for government, military, and commercial customers. The plates are built from high-density alumina ceramic (Al2O3) cores backed with layered woven aramid or composite fiber, finished in water-resistant Cordura nylon. Most of the line is triple-curve, which wraps the torso for better comfort and coverage than flat or single-curve plates, and many include a foam strike-face pad to protect against severe drops.
LTC’s lineup is weighted toward certified Level IV, making it a strong choice for buyers who specifically want armor-piercing protection from an established manufacturer. It also includes lighter special threat and Level III options.
LTC Level IV Plates
Level IV is the heart of the LTC lineup, and it stops armor-piercing rounds up to .30-06 M2 AP, the highest certified protection. LTC gives you several certified options at different weights, curves, and price points.
The flagship is the LTC 28590 Gen V SOCOM, a lightweight Level IV plate built to military SOCOM standards from the highest-grade carbide ceramic with carbon and polyethylene backing. At a medium weight of roughly 4.88 to 5.11 lb and 1″ thick, it defeats multiple impacts of 7.62×39 API plus single impacts of 7.62x54R and .30-06 M2 AP, stand-alone. It is the top of the LTC line.
For NIJ-certified Level IV at a range of weights, the LTC 26605 (triple-curve) and its single-curve sibling the LTC 26600 are certified stand-alone plates with alumina ceramic and aramid backing. The LTC 26300 is the lightweight certified option, and the LTC 26105 and LTC 26135-26151 are NIJ 04 certified triple-curve sets, the latter also available in a Multicam wrap.
The pattern: the 28590 SOCOM is the premium lightweight multi-hit option, while the 26000-series gives you certified Level IV in your choice of curve, weight, and finish.
LTC Level III and III+ Plates
For buyers who do not need armor-piercing protection, LTC offers lighter Level III and III+ options. The LTC 23707 is an NIJ 06 certified Level III plate with additional special threat testing (III+), built from high-density alumina ceramic backed with layered composite fiber and finished in a rugged black Line-X coating. The LTC 23620 is a multi-curve Level III option.
These are the choice when your threat profile is common rifle fire rather than armor piercing, and you want to save weight and cost over Level IV.
LTC Special Threat Plates
The LTC 21855 Special Threat is LTC’s lightweight, concealable special threat plate, engineered to stop the most common rifle threats. It has stand-alone stopping power against 5.56 M193, 5.56 M855, and 7.62×39 MSC, and adds coverage for 7.62×39 API, 7.62×51 M80, and 12 ga slug when worn in conjunction with NIJ Level II soft armor. At just over 0.5″ thick and multi-curve, it is designed for all-day concealable wear, from 1.8 lb (5×8) up to 5.3 lb (10×12 swimmer).
This is the LTC choice for a light, low-profile setup that covers the common domestic threats without the weight of Level IV.
Trauma Plates and Side Plates
To round out a setup, the LTC 21700 Trauma Speed Plate is a Level IIIA-tested backer designed to dramatically reduce backface deformation when worn behind a hard plate, improving trauma protection. For flank coverage, the LTC 26227 Level IV Side Plate Set extends certified armor-piercing protection to your sides.

FAQ
LTC stands for Leading Technology Composites, one of the largest body armor manufacturers in the world and a longtime military and law enforcement supplier. LTC plates are American-made from high-density alumina ceramic backed with aramid or composite fiber, with a lineup focused on certified Level IV protection.
Yes. LTC is an established, large-scale American armor manufacturer supplying military and law enforcement. The plates are NIJ certified where rated, triple-curve for comfort, and built to standards including military SOCOM specs on the flagship 28590. The product pages list each plate’s exact certification and threats.
The LTC 28590 Gen V SOCOM is LTC’s flagship lightweight Level IV plate, built to military SOCOM standards from high-grade carbide ceramic with carbon and PE backing. At roughly 4.88 to 5.11 lb (medium) and 1″ thick, it defeats multiple 7.62×39 API impacts plus single impacts of 7.62x54R and .30-06 M2 AP, stand-alone.
Multi-curve (triple-curve) plates like the LTC 26605 wrap the torso more closely for better comfort and coverage. Single-curve plates like the LTC 26600 are flatter and often less expensive. Both can carry the same certification; the difference is fit and comfort versus cost.
Among Level IV, the 28590 Gen V SOCOM is the lightweight flagship at about 4.88 to 5.11 lb medium, and the 26300 is the lightweight certified option. For the lightest overall, the 21855 Special Threat starts as low as 1.8 lb in the smallest cut, though it is special threat rather than Level IV.
Most LTC Level IV and III plates are certified stand-alone, meaning they do not require soft armor to reach their rating. The 21855 Special Threat is stand-alone against some threats and requires NIJ Level II soft armor to reach its full listed protection. Check each product page for stand-alone versus in-conjunction ratings.
