When you stop to help someone who is bleeding or sick, whatever is in their blood and body fluids ends up on your hands, your clothes and your face. Most kits are packed to treat the casualty and carry nothing to protect the person doing the treating. The North American Rescue Biological Personal Protection Kit is a full set of barrier protection sealed flat in one pack so it is there when you need it.
Open it and you have everything to cover up: a universal impervious gown that goes over your clothes, a Level 2 surgical mask, a self-adhesive eyeshield to keep splash out of your eyes and two pairs of NAR Bear Claw gloves. One pair is Large and one is X-Large, so the kit fits whoever grabs it.
Cleanup is part of the kit too. Two antiseptic towelettes let you wipe down once the gloves come off, the biohazard bag takes the contaminated gear and the clear 9 by 12 inch plastic bag gives you a second bag for anything else you need to keep separate.
NAR built this kit as a component of the US Naval Boat Response Aid Kit. It is suited to Navy and Military Sealift Command ships, commercial vessels and Border Patrol officers. NAR designed it to maximize personal protection when handling and managing detainees, refugees or anyone whose health status you know nothing about.
Packaged it is 6 by 8 inches, an inch thick and 4.6 oz, so it slides into a vehicle kit, a range bag or an aid bag. It rounds out a trauma kit: the tourniquet, chest seals and gauze are for the casualty and this is for you. Treat it as a one-time kit. Use it, bag it and replace it.
