The Hesco 3810 is a certified NIJ Level III+ rifle plate with one of the broadest special threat lists in its class. On top of the usual III+ coverage, it adds protection against 7.62x54R LPS and 7.62×63 (.30-06) soft point, two rounds that many III+ plates do not address. If you want certified rifle protection that accounts for surplus and hunting calibers as well as the common threats, the 3810 covers more ground.
Its full tested list includes 5.56 M193, M855, and SS109, 7.62×39 M67 and mild steel core M43, 7.62×51 M80, 7.62x54R LPS, and 7.62×63 JSP. It does not stop armor piercing rounds, which require a Level IV plate. The 3810 is stand alone, so no soft armor backer is required.
At about 4.1 lb in the SAPI Medium cut and a slim 0.98 inches thick, it stays light and comfortable for the protection it offers. The multi-curve shape wraps the torso, every plate is NIJ 0101.06 certified, and it ships as a set of two wrapped in a water repellent Cordura finish.
If you do not need the 7.62x54R and .30-06 coverage, the Hesco 3612 offers core Level III+ protection for less. If you need armor piercing protection, step up to a Level IV plate such as the certified Hesco 4601 or the lighter, compliant Hesco 4800.
Best for: buyers who want certified Level III+ protection with added coverage against 7.62x54R and .30-06 soft point, in a light, thin plate.
