When a wound is too high on the limb or too deep in the body for a tourniquet, you pack it and hold pressure while the blood clots. With a major bleed you may not have the minutes that takes on its own. QuikClot Combat Gauze LE is built to shorten them.

It is 4 yards of soft sterile non-woven gauze, 3 inches wide and impregnated with kaolin. Kaolin is an inert mineral that promotes clotting within minutes and produces no heat. QuikClot Combat Gauze is the hemostatic dressing the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care lists as its first choice.

There is nothing new to learn to use it. Combat Gauze goes in with the same technique as standard gauze: feed it into the wound, fill the cavity and hold firm direct pressure. It is Z-folded so it feeds out in a controlled line as you pack and it is pliable enough to contour to any wound.

Each one is individually wrapped in a military grade foil pouch with eight tear points, so whichever edge your fingers find is a place to rip it open. Shelf life is 5 years, which matters for a kit that may ride in a bag or on a belt for a long time before it is needed.

Combat Gauze LE is indicated for temporary external control of traumatic bleeding. Back it with plain NAR Wound Packing Gauze if the wound needs more volume, carry it alongside your C-A-T tourniquet for the limbs and get trained. A Stop the Bleed or TCCC course will teach you to pack a wound properly.
