The Hesco 4800 is the lightest Level IV plate HESCO makes, and it solves a problem most armor cannot: how to get full armor piercing protection without the weight that normally comes with it. At about 5.1 lb in the SAPI Medium cut, the 4800 weighs less than many special threat plates while stopping rifle rounds up to and including .30-06 M2 AP on its own.
The 4800 is built to the NIJ 0101.06 Level IV standard as a compliant plate, meaning it meets the Level IV protection requirements. If you specifically need an NIJ certified and listed plate, the Hesco 4601 and Hesco 4403MC are our certified Level IV options. The 4800 is stand alone, so no soft armor backer is required, and the multi-curve shape wraps the torso for comfort under a carrier.
At 1.04 inches thick and just over 5 lb in the common SAPI Medium size, it delivers the highest hard armor threat rating at a weight that disappears on the body. That capability sits at the top of the price range, which is the tradeoff for carrying the least possible weight at Level IV.
Each plate ships as a set of two for front and back coverage, wrapped in a water repellent Cordura finish.
For a lower price, the certified 4601 and 4403MC linked above carry the same Level IV rating in exchange for more weight. And if you do not need armor piercing protection at all, a special threat plate like the Hesco U210 saves both weight and cost.
Best for: buyers who want the lightest possible Level IV armor piercing protection and will pay a premium to carry it.
