A regular ballpoint quits the moment the paper gets wet. The ball skips, the ink beads up on the water and by the time you tilt the pen to write on a page against your leg it stops feeding altogether. If you carry a Rite in the Rain notebook you need a pen that keeps up with the paper and that is what this one is.
The cartridge is pressurized, so the ink is pushed to the ball instead of relying on gravity. That lets you write at any angle, flat on your back or upside down against the underside of a hood, in temperatures from 30 below to 250 degrees and even under water down to 35 feet. The ink itself is a proprietary Rite in the Rain formula that writes through water, sweat, grease and mud without skipping, clumping or smearing and once it is on the page it is permanent.
The barrel is powder-coated brass in flat black with a pocket clip, so it stays put in a shirt pocket, a pen loop on an admin pouch or the elastic on a notebook cover. It is a clicker, no cap to lose in the dark. At 5 1/8 inches long and 3/8 of an inch across it feels like a proper pen in the hand, not a stub. Pick black ink or blue ink, same pen either way.
Pair it with the Pocket Top Spiral or the Top Spiral Notebook and you have a writing setup that works in whatever the weather does. Made in the U.S.A.
